My Bio- Who I am and What I'm doing!

I have been teaching middle school in the same district since 1996, don't do the math, you'll realize I'm old! I have a BFA in Jewelry and a masters in middle school education, I spent many, many years teaching art and loved it! In 2004 I decided to stay home and be a full time mom. When I returned to the classroom, my old art position was filled, but they offered me a position teaching robotics using the Lego Minestorms platform. This was the beginning of not just loving being a teacher, but thriving!

Two years ago I was at MACUL, Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (shout out to http://www.macul.org/) and saw a presentation on using Minecraft in the classroom. I was instantly hooked! I knew immediately that I wanted, no I NEEDED to become a Minecraft teacher. My first step was learning to play, something I'm still working on, and my next step was convincing the powers that be that we needed to invest the computer lab time, the money, the tech department hours, the schedule time, and me into teaching a minecraft class. Luckily, I am very persuasive ;-)

Our school year is broken into trimesters. The tech department used the first trimester to problem solve and the second trimester I started teaching Minecraft!

This blog is a chronicle of my experiences, and my student's experience as we embark on out first year of teaching and learning with MinecraftEdu!

  1. What are your thoughts about the transition from MinecraftEDU to Minecraft:Education Edition? How are you working with students now?
